On 28-30 August 2017, JIAS hosted an interdisciplinary conference entitled ‘The Prelude to Decolonisation: The Turning of the Tide’. The conference featured contributions by scholars from a range of South African and British universities.

JIAS was the main sponsor. Other participating institutions were the British Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of Cambridge.
