Speaker: Dr Nduduzo Makhathini, lecturer in Jazz Studies at the University of Fort Hare

Dr Nduduzo Makhathini is currently a lecturer in Jazz Studies at the University of Fort Hare, a recording artist released under the infamous Blue Note label and Universal Music. A 3 times SAMA award-winner in the Best Jazz category in 2017, 2018, and 2021, as well as the AFRIMA award for Best Jazz Album (2017). Dr Nduduzo has recently published two papers with peer review journals, Bheki Mseleku: Towards a Biography (2018), and Jazz in Postcolonial South Africa: Tracing the Politics of ‘Formal’ and ‘Informal’.  Dr Nduduzo Makhathini’s thesis, which he obtained from Stellenbosch University was titled, ‘Breaking into Sound:  Dis/Locating Ntu Cosmology and Improvisation in South African Jazz’.
