It has been now forty-seven years since the leader of the nationalist movement for the liberation of Cape Verde and Guiné Bissau, Amílcar Cabral was brutally killed in Conakry. Cabral was fatally shot by the time the proclamation of the independence of Guiné was inevitable. In this presentation, based on Prof António Tomás forthcoming biography on Cabral, he reflects on his life and death, the historical time of Guiné’s pursuit of independence, and how to engage with his legacy in contemporary Africa.
