Why do people join ‘miracle churches’? There is a disconnect with the economy due to high levels of unemployment in South Africa; that was one of the views that Professor Maria Frahm-Arp highlighted when she delivered a two-hour seminar on ‘Why in the Fourth Industrial Revolution are Miracle Churches Attracting so many People?’ at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study on Wednesday.

A majority of these churches, Frahm-Arp argued, are set up in poor communities where a majority of congregants attend with the false belief that a miracle would deliver them from poverty and unemployment.
